Son of James R. Riggle (b. @1791 in VA) and Elizabeth Jenkins (b. @1794 in VA); siblings: Charity (b. 1816), Mary Elizabeth (1827-1888), James (1830-1888), Lurana (b. 1833), George W. (b. 1834) and William (b. 1825), age 23 at enlistment in Co. K, 38TH IND INF on Sept. 18, 1861; brothers George W. and William also served in the same company and regiment; occupation: farmer/carpenter; gray eyes, brown hair, sandy complexion, 5'10" tall; discharged at Columbus, TN on April 24, 1863 due to wounds received in action at the Battle of Perryville, KY on Oct. 8, 1862; later served in Lamb's Independent Cavalry Company of the Indiana Legion (July 25, 1863-April 23, 1864); married Miss Sarah Emeline Wilson (1840-1918) on March 12, 1857 in Crawford Co., IN; children: Emily Elizabeth (b. 1858), Eliza Manerva (b. 1860), Olive Charles (b. 1862), Cornelia Arabella (b. 1864), John Wesley (b. 1866), Otis Lasell (b. 1868), Emily Arizona (b. 1870), Alabama Jane (b. 1872), Iona Elizabeth (b. 1875), Genevera Adline (b. 1877), Henry Lonzo (b. 1882), and Edward Thurman (b. 1883)
