John Gambler Passed Away Today at the Residence of His Parents
After a lingering illness of over a year, John Gambler, son of Rev. and Mrs. Uriah Gambler, passed away this morning at the residence of his parents, 1008 Guilford street. Deceased was aged 33 years and the immediate cause of death was consumption. He was highly respected and was well known throughout the city and county. He was a faithful member of the United Brethren church, and his death will be much regretted by all who knew him. He was married to a Miss Snavely, who, with five children, survive him. The widow and children have the sympathies of many friends in their sad bereavement. Deceased was a cigarmaker by trade and until his illness began he was employed in local cigar factories.
Epitaph on John William's grave reads:
"The golden Gates were opened wide.
A gentle voice said "Come,"
And angels from the other side
Welcomed our loved one home."
