Hielta Margretha Folkerts nee Habben, born February 3, 1859, at Ochtersum, Ostfriesland, Germany. Became a baptized member of the Lutheran Church in her infancy and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith March 29, 1874.
She came to this country with a sister and settled down at Minonk, Illinois.
On April 27, 1885 she was united in marriage to William A. Folkerts, of Minonk, Illinois.
To this union were born six children, five boys and a girl.
In the spring of 1888 she moved with her husband to Nebraska, making their home near Garrison.
In the spring of 1907 they moved to Carleton, Nebraska. Here Mrs. Folkerts became a member of Zion Lutheran Church and has retained that membership to date. She was also a member of the Woman's Missionary Federation of the American Lutheran Church and a very active worker. Her health commenced to fail during the past summer and she departed this world to her heavenly reward on the morning of January 20, almost reaching the age of 76 years.
A daughter passed on before her as well as a son and her husband.
She leaves to mourn, one brother, Geo. Hannen, of Mitchell, S. D., one sister, Mrs. W. Hillerns also of Mitchell, S.D., her sons, George of Arnesville, Illinois, Remmer, Will and John of Carleton. Also seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at Zion Lutheran Church at Carleton with Rev. A. G. Trost speaking the words of consolation.
Interment in Carleton Cemetery.
