Sophie, as we called her, married George W. Martus on August 5, 1929 in Sioux Falls South Dakota. They moved to Salem, Oregon in 1933 and lived there the rest of their lives. She was a member of the Eastern Star Emblem Club and a livetime member of the Elks.
Sophie was a fastidious house keeper. She alway had a garden and canned many of the foods that she prepared. She had worked for some time in a local cannery so canning foods was a natural for her. She was a loyal and constant companion and gracious wife to George for over 62 years.
Sophia had no biological children but one step daughter Nancy F (Martus) Wassman/Munro. She had two sisters Emma Block of South Dakota and Anna Stark of Iowa. She had two grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren by marriage.
Sophie spent the last two years of her life under the care of Nancy Munro in Puyallup, Washington. After Sophie's death her body was transported to Salem for burial with her husband George Martus.
