THOMAS BIRCHER, 76, Dies; Retired Schatz Supervisor August 1967 (page 22 of paper)
Thomas Bircher, 76, of 82 S. Hamilton St., who had been a supervisor of engineering and drafting at Schatz Federal Bearings Companies, until his retirements in 1957, died this morning in Poughkeepsie.
Born in England, May 21, 1890, he was the son of the late Richard and Mary Ann Sutcliffe Bircher. In 1923, in Montreal, Canada, he married the former Jane Chalmers McIldowie, who survives.
Mr. Bircher was a member of the First Baptist Church; a deacon of the church and president of the Men's Brotherhood of the church. He also was a member of the Foreman's Club of Federal Bearings; the Schatz Pistol Association; a member and past master of Triune Lodge, F. and A.M., and the Past Masters Association of the Dutchess County District. In addition to his wife, Mr. Bircher is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Edward R. Mordaunt, Neptune City, NY; a brother, Herbert, Hyde Park: Three sisters, Mrs. Chester Brannan and Mrs. Walter Hoose, both of Middletown and Mrs. George Rainey, California; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Schoonmaker Chapel, 73 S. Hamilton St. Burial will be in the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home tomorrow from 7 to 9 p.m. The Triune Lodge will conduct services at the funeral home tomorrow at 7:30 o'clock.
