ESTEEMED PRESTON FARMER CALLED BY DEATH JULY 2

Merton Gabel Has Been Resident Of Vicinity Most Of His Life

Merton Gabel, a prominent farmer in Preston township, northeast of Akron, for many years, passed away at his home there on Wednesday morning, July 2, 1947, after several years of ill health, at the age of 67 years, 3months and 27 days.

Merton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Gabel, was born on March 5, 1880, in Sac City, Iowa, and came to western Plymouth county with his parents in his early youth. Like his father, he followed farming and stock raising. He had lived on the farm in Section 28, Preston township, since coming to the county. His son-in-law, Charles Williams, has farmed the place in recent years.

On March 8, 1907, Mr. Gabel was united in marriage with Miss Annie Bohlken in LeMars. She survives him, with one daughter, Mrs. Charles Williams. Also surviving him are four brothers, Milton Gabel, of LeMars; George Gabel, of Merrill; Frank Gabel, of LeMars; and Lee Gabel, of Bath, S.D.; three sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Olson, of Colome, S.D.; Mrs. Jessie Treptow, of LeMars. and Mrs. Mary Bohlken, of Long Beach, Calif., and three grandchildren, LaVoy, Glenna Mae and Jerry Williams.

Mr. Gabel had been a faithful and consistent member of Plymouth Presbyterian church for a number of years. A kind and devoted husband and father, a good neighbor and a valued friend, he was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He will be sincerely missed in the community where he spent so many years of a useful life.

Funeral services were held Saturday, at 2:00 p.m. from the home and at 2:30 in the Plymouth Presbyterian church, conducted by Rev, Theo. C. Seibert, the pastor. Interment was in Plymouth cemetery.
