Mildred Snell Bennett, 93, passed away Friday, April 27 at the Gallatin Rest Home. She was born June 12, 1918 at her grandparents' homestead (Archie & Christine Martin) on Reynolds Road, north of Belgrade. Her parents were Florence (Martin) and Robert Earl Snell.
She attended school at Mountain View (Cracker Box), Reese Creek and Gallatin County High School, graduating in 1937. She married Argyle D. Bennett in 1937, the couple herded sheep for five years at the north end of the beautiful Bridger Mountains. She had many fond memories and stories of those years. Later they moved to Bozeman where their three daughters were born. They built a home on North Montana where they kept a cow on a vacant lot. They moved into their East Villard home in 1949. When the girls were young, she was active in PTA, Brownies, Girl Scouts and Methodist Youth Fellowship. She attended Faith Methodist Church. She served on 15 juries during her lifetime. She was an election official for her precinct for many years. She was an avid gardener, providing food for her family every year. It was very important to her to keep a tidy home and yard. She didn't drive a car and was very independent, so she walked wherever she needed to go in Bozeman. She enjoyed camping, fishing, crocheting, sewing and reading. She loved her many pets and took pleasure in feeding the wild birds.
She is survived by her daughters, Florence Jenkins (Dan) of East Helena, Betty Bos Sauvageau (Dorick) of Bozeman and Karen Page (Irv) of Three Forks. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Vonnie Jenkins (Rick Smith) of Helena, Dan "Buddy" Jenkins (Cathy) of East Helena, Becky Wollenburg (Joel) of Brownsd-ale, MN, Valarie Abraham (Buddy) of Bozeman, Vickie Crist (David) of Kirkland, WA, Lane Bos (Rachel) of Bozeman, Shawnee Hansen of Philipsburg and Amy Kraeutl (Didi) of Koblach, Austria. She is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Martha McGuire, Sarah Hopkins, Sue Dorsey, Betty Conner, Dolly Olson and Shirley Bennett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Argyle Bennett in 1988, a son-in-law Buck Bos, and brothers, James, Jack and Robert Snell.
