JESSE BORING SUCCUMBS TO LONG ILLNESS AFTER RESIDENCE OF SIXTY YEARS IN THIS CITY
The fast-dwindling ranks of the pioneer residents of DuBois was reduced again early Sunday morning when Jesse Boring, Sr., succumbed at his home on DuBois Street after a lingering illness, due to complications. For several weeks his condition had been critical and death was not unexpected, but its occurrence was cause for sadness upon the part of a wide circle of friends the deceased had built up in sixty years of residence in DuBois, as a hotel-keeper, paint foreman and through other contacts with his fellow citizens.
Mr. Boring submitted to a major operation about a year ago, from which he never fully recovered. He was seventy-four years of age and had lived in the First Ward for the past fifty-three years.
Mr. Boring came to this city in the year 1875 from Cherry Tree, PA and following the disastrous DuBois fire, he engaged in the hotel business. He was later in the employ of the B. R. & P Railway, where he served thirty-six years as a master foreman of painters.
The deceased was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Loyal Order of Moose. He was a man well liked and respected by a host of friends who will learn of his death with much regret.
Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Annie E. Boring; eight sons and daughters; Earl Boring of Waren, PA; Mrs. J. C. McCall of Canton, Ohio; Jesse Boring, Jr. of DuBois; Mrs. A. B. Heidrick of Salaman ca, NY; Sebastian Boring of Akron, OH; Mrs. D. Ferrier of East Brady, PA; Mrs. M. J. Lawson of Erie and Stewart Boring of Wellsville, NY. One sister, Myrtle Smith of Fort Wayne, Indiana; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.
Brief services will be held at the residence of DuBois Street, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock and funeral services will be conducted in the Evangelical church at 2:30 o'clock by Reverend R. A. Nelson, pastor. Interment will be made in Rumbarger Cemetery.
