Presidential Cabinet Secretary. Cordell Hull was born in a log cabin, the third of the five sons of William and Elizabeth (Riley) Hull.1891-Earned Law degree in Celina, Tenn.. 1893 to 1897 Member of the Tennessee House of Representatives. United States Army, Spanish-American War, Captain; Fourth Tennessee Regiment. 1903-1907 Judge; Fifth Judicial District. 1917; married Rose Frances Whitney. 1907-1931 US Representative to Congress, Tennessee, 4th Districts. Member House Ways & means Committee. He wrote the income tax and inheritance tax laws that we still have today. Expert in Commercial and Fiscal Policy.1931-1933 US Senator until appointment on March 4, 1933 to Secretary of State by FDR (he holds the record for the longest holder of that position). He helped lead the country through WWII and prepared for the economic, diplomatic and political aftermath. Ill health caused him to withdraw from office on November 27, 1944. 1945-Winner Nobel Peace Prize. His last public service was in helping to organize the United Nations.
