Hans Larsen came to the USA from Denmark in 1879 and settled in Des Moines, Ia. where he worked as a coal miner.

In 1883 he married Hannah Christenson, the daughter of a coworker, they had 2 sons, Edward and Robert. Hannah died in Feb of 1889 in Des Moines, Ia.

Hans married Mary Ann Brooks in 1890 in Des Moines, Ia. and they went on to have 5 girls and 2 more boys,

In 1900, the family is living in Des Moines, Iowa

Mary died in child birth of twins in 1907, the babies also did not live.

Hans moved the family to Percy, Ill. in 1907. were he work in the coal mines.

By 1908, Edith moved back to Des Moines and married Roger Michaelson.

Millie Larsen also moves back to Des Moines, Iowa in 1909.

The 1910 U.S. census finds Hans living in Coulterville, Ill. with the 5 youngest children.

It was said that he allowed his youngest girl, Ann, to be adopted after the 1910 census.

The 1920 census shows him with Wlliam and Carl living in Coulterville ,Ill. Hans and William worked in the mines, Carl was in school.

In 1925, Hans went to Des Moines, Ia. to stay with his oldest daughter, Edith Michaelson and her family, there he shows in the in the 1925 Iowa census.
One of the only pictures I have of Hans was taken at this time. He was fishing under the new Grand Ave bridge, by the Des Moines newspaper

The 1930 census finds Hans back in Coulterville, Ill. living with his oldest son Edward Larsen and his wife.

1934 Hans is sent to the state hospital in Anna, Ill. and stayed there until his death in 1935.

Uncle Ed pays to have him buried in the Coulterville cemetery.

The stone says he was born in 1864 but Illinois DC says 1854, as does the 1900 census.
