An early pioneer of Butler County, Ohio. He moved as a child from Pennsylvania to Kentucky with his parents in 1795. As a young man he was a Methodist circuit rider throughout Tennessee, Mississippi and Louisiana. He settled near Paddy's Run, Butler Co., Ohio (also called New London; today known as Shandon) and married Rebecca Holstead/Halstead in 1811; they lived in a log cabin and had three sons and a daughter. Hezekiah became a farmer and remained an itinerant preacher.
