Charles Elton Carpenter, age 73, of 1012 Adams St., Salisbury, Md., died Wednesday, April 11, 1990, in the Pennisula General Medical Center, Salisbury, Md. He was a former resident of Clifton Forge and Roanoke. He was born December 24, 1916, on Chincoteague Island, Va., and was the son of the late Selby and Maude Mumford Carpenter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Annie Nicely Carpenter, in 1976. Mr. Carpenter was retired from the Whiting Oil Company in 1981 and was the founder of Visible Memories, Inc. He was a member and deacon of the Wicomico Presbyterian Church in Salisbury, Md. Mr. Carpenter was a deacon of the Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church and served as church treasurer for 15 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Robert L. (Susan) Moore; son-in-law, Robert L. Moore, both of Salisbury, Md.; two grandchildren, Charles Robert Moore and Sarah Elizabeth Moore, both of Salisbury, Md.; one niece, Mrs. Thomas A. (Cela) Callaghan, Newport News, Va.; one nephew, T. Kent Nicely, Clifton Forge. Funeral services will be held Friday in Salisbury, Md. Graveside services will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge, with Dr. William O. Moore officiating. Memorial gifts may be made to the Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church. Arrangements by Nicely Funeral Home.
