Alvah Dallas Harp
Birth: Dec. 12, 1838
Death: Jan. 16, 1919

Hon. Alvah Dallas Harp, a brother of Sheriff La Fayette Harp, possessed that same geniality of disposition which characterized his brother and other members of that family.

Their parents participated prominently in the development of this section of the state and their descendants have continued to sustain that high type of
citizenship exemplified by the former generations.

Mr. Harp, like all members of his family, possessed excellent judgment in managing business affairs. He was active in political affairs and served as a county official.

He married first, Martha McCook, who was noted for the kindliness of her disposition and the beneficent influence of her character upon the family. With the exception of one son who lived in Louisiana and one daughter, who lived in North Georgia, members of this family established homes in Chattahoochee where they have ever been esteemed citizens, while several moved away as the years passed.

His son Mr. Sidney Andrew Joel Harp, a rural mail carrier, is remebered as a gentle soul and made friends of all the children of Cusseta, who regarded him as their especial ally.

All of this family possess musical talent of a high order and Mr. Euchee Harp, now of Columbus excelled as a singer. His daughter Leila Belle, has won state wide recognition for her ability as a vocalist.

Mr. Harp's second wife, Teresa Hewell, had many friends who appreciated the fineness of her Christian character.

His last wife, Mrs. Alma Ansley Harp, resides with the family of her brother Ben Ansley, whose children feel for her a great devotion inspired by the care lavished upon them throughout their childhood.

Mr. Harp lived more than four score years, seeing his children successful and well established in life and knowing that his family had played well its part in the history of Chattahoochee.
