She was born in Farmington on Feb. 9, 1921, the daughter of the late Daniel Schuyler and Josephine (Dingley) Austin. Her childhood years were spent in West Farmington and Farmington. She was a star basketball player during her years at Farmington High School. She was named outstanding girl athlete and graduated from Farmington High School in 1939. She graduated from Farmington State Normal School and attended Bliss Business College.
In September 1944, she joined the WAVES (U.S. Navy). She was stationed in San Francisco where she worked in the Fleet Post Office. After the war she worked at the Farmington Dowel Co. It was there she met Glenn 'Dave' Kendall. They were married on Dec. 14, 1951. Together they raised five children.
She was an elementary school teacher in Starks and then taught fourth grade for 18 years at Livermore Elementary School. She retired from teaching in 1983.
She was a member of the Henderson Memorial Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. She was also a member of the Farmington Historical Society and the Clearwater Bridge Club.
Mrs. Kendall is survived by three daughters, Jane and her husband Hervey Andrews of Temple, Josephine and her husband Gregory Bizier of Livermore, Mary and her husband Denys Cornelio of Presque Isle; two sons, G. Austin Kendall Jr. and his wife Debra of New Sharon, Schuyler Kendall and his wife Meredith of Farmington; 10 grandchildren, Mark and Scott Andrews, Esther and Thomas Bizier, Lena, Zachary and Lilly Kendall, Elliot and Micah Kendall and Carrie Jackson; two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Keegan Andrews; one sister-in-law, Ines D. Austin; two brothers-in-law, Clyde Barrows and Robert Francis; many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband of 39 years in 1990; three sisters, Dr. Anna A. Small, Marion Barrows and Jane Francis; two brothers, Nelson 'Sonny' Austin and her twin Franklin J. Austin.
