Floyd Knapp was a home builder in Des Moines, Iowa building many of the homes along Douglas, Clinton and the Ashby park area of town. The legal description for the homes in this part of town is Knapp Place.

He was also an inventor of sorts. He invented and patented the ball bearing thrust used in automobile technology but when Ford motors asked to buy, he passed, planning to market it himself. Ford improved on his process and patented their own version. The photo of him at a train station is when he was leaving to go to Washington DC and file his patent.

He invented a cigarette machine that would slice open the pack of cigarettes when dispensed.
