Frederick James Chapman
Birth: Nov. 25, 1872
Little Cooley
Crawford County
Pennsylvania, USA
Death: Dec. 14, 1957
Union City
Erie County
Pennsylvania, USA

Major League Baseball Player. He was a right handed pitcher known for being the youngest player ever to take the mound in a Major League game. On July 22, 1887, at age 14, he made his debut with the Philadelphia Athletics against the Cleveland Blues. In five innings pitched, he had four strikeouts, two walks, gave up eight hits, four earned runs, six runs total scored and had a 7.20 earned run average. As a batter, he did not collect a hit in two at-bats. Although there is dispute that Fred Chapman was not the youngest player ever to pitch in the majors, he is still associated with the record for being so. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
