Coleman was the son of Coleman Osborne, Sr. & Flora Webb Osborne. His family called him Junior and his friends nicknamed him Jim. He grew up in Garrard County, Kentucky surrounded by both Osborne and Grimes relatives. Some of his happiest childhood memories were made while roaming the hills of Garrard County, searching for Indian arrowheads or hunting and fishing with his cousins.
His parents moved their family to Richmond, Indiana, so that his father could work in the factories there. Coleman married Catherine Gentry, the daughter of Robert Ernest Gentry & Nancy Ethel Chesher Gentry, on December 25, 1950 in Richmond. The marriage was of a short duration and a divorce was granted in March of 1953.
He married Shirley Ann Salyer Thompson on January 18, 1956, also in Richmond. She was the daughter of Steve Sylvester Salyer & Ruth Ellen Spurlin Salyer and the former wife of Emerson Harris Thompson. Coleman was a stepfather to Shirley's daughter, Duresa Suzanne Thompson. In addition, the couple were the parents of two sons and two daughters.
A loving husband and father, he was always patient and kind. Coleman loved life, in spite of its problems. He was an incurable practical joker, wonderful storyteller and loved to sing, especially folk songs and bluegrass tunes.
Mr. Osborne passed away in his sleep, from the effects of internal bleeding following surgery. Following funeral services, he was laid to rest at Goshen Cemetery with full military honors.
