Marjorie Reeve Andresen, 95, died Nov. 8, 2008, at the Anchorage Pioneers' Home. While her daughters sang "You are my Sunshine," Midge passed away peacefully and with grace. A visitation was held with a service at Evergreen Memorial Chapel. A reception followed at the Anchorage Pioneers' Home, 923 W. 11th Ave.
Midge was born July 14, 1913, in Rogue River, Ore. She arrived in Seward in 1933 via the Alaska Steamship Aleutian with her father and mother, Clarence and Nellie Reeve, and her brother, Calvin. Immediately upon her arrival, Midge met her future husband, Clark Andresen and also met her life-long friend, Maude Larsson Harris. Midge's and Maude's friendship continued through current times. Until her health declined, Midge always danced -- both ballroom style and folk dancing. She was athletic and enjoyed hiking, swimming and especially all the good times with family and her many friends at the summer house on Caswell Lake. Midge traveled internationally and was game for any new adventure. "She had a special affinity for those less fortunate and her charity toward her fellow man was legion," her family recalled. "Midge loved interior design and often changed the family home's decor -- the consistent color being red. She was the eternal glamour queen as was exhibited through her stunning attire -- dramatic hats being the required accessory. "Her good humor, generosity and kindness provided the anchor for the entire family. To know Midge was to love her. Holidays and family occasions were reason to indulge in costume and theme parties where her credo was 'the more the merrier.' " Midge was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Pioneers of Alaska. Alaska Yukon Pioneers and the Anchorage Women's Club. The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude for loving care provided by the staff at the Anchorage Pioneers' Home.
