My Mama...
*~♥~♥~♥~♥~♥~♥~♥~♥~♥~♥~♥~*

Margaret Ann Shepherd Aderholt Hopkins. Daughter of Henry Hunter Shepherd Sr. and Daisy Margaret (Grant) Shepherd. Mother of Henry Lester Aderholt and Karen Devra Hopkins.

Mama was born and raised in Alabama. Her Mama and Papa bought a dairy farm in 1924. She was the oldest of nine children and she often helped in raising her younger brothers and sisters...All of whom she loved most dearly.

Mama was married first to Lester 'Red' Aderholt. They married after Red came home from WWII. Their son Henry Lester was born in 1947. But in 1955 Red died of tuberculosis. She was a widow at 36 with an eight year old little boy to raise.

She married my Daddy the day after Christmas 1955.
Mama loved her family, her children, both her husbands and God.

She was a true Southern Lady with all the attributes. She was strong and soft. She was tough and gentle. She was artistic, kind, and would fight to the death if you were one that she loved.

My Mama had a way about her that is hard to put in words. The charm and grace she carried with her can never be matched. Coming into her home- no matter what the circumstances- you were welcomed with hospitality, food, a glass of sweet tea, and a clean bed to stay in if the need arose.

She was one person who could literally charm the birds out of the trees.

After marrying my Dad, she got one of her hearts desires- to travel. Daddy worked on pipeline construction. So off she went to Florida, Oklahoma, Kansas, North and South Dakota, Arizona, Pennsylvania (where I was born),Texas, Kentucky, Wyoming, Indiana, New Mexico, Minnesota, and before we moved to Washington state- her cherished Colorado.

Moving sometimes six or seven times during a job she packed up, loaded the car and off we went. Never an unkind word or complaint. She reveled in meeting new friends and seeing the wonders in every place we moved.

And I guess the most telling thing of all is because of her kindness, generosity, sweetness of spirit- just about everyone who she came across, became her friend.

That is what I call a Legacy....
