Christina Sholin was born 28 August 1831 in (of) Norrby, Alfta parish, Hälsingland, Sweden. In Swedish records she was sometimes shown as Cherstin or Kerstin Jansdotter, Rolig or Roberg. Her parents were Johan Rolig, a.k.a. Johan Roberg and Christina Olsdotter Grip. The "Alfta Släktbok," or "Alfta Family Book," a compilation of Alfta parish family genealogies, shows the marriage of Johan Jonsson-Sjölin and Cherstin Jansdotter on 21 April 1850. They came to from Sweden to Kansas in 1884 with their two youngest sons after several older sons had already emigrated. In America, the parents were known as John and Christine Sholin. John Sholin died about 1891, probably in Kansas, and Christine went out west to Washington to live with her son, Peter Sholin. They moved to Portland, Oregon, where Christine Sholin died on 23 Jan 1911 in Arleta, which is now part of the city of Portland.
