“Mr. Emmerson, of Bunker Hill, was accidentally killed at the station on Wednesday while unloading logs. The coroner held an inquest after which the body was taken to his home in Bunker Hill for interment.”

“Between 12 and 1 o’clock last Wednesday Mr. M. L. Emerson was killed at Dorchester. He was unloading walnut logs without assistance and it being large and unwieldy rolled down on his and then pinned him face downward in the mud and suffocated. The funeral services were held here at his late residence Friday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. D. G. Harris pastor of the M. E. church. Mr. Ruben Emerson of Flora, Ill., brother of the deceased, Mrs. VanCleve of Olney and Rev. Jos. Vancleve of Decatur, mother and brother of Mr[s]. Emerson were in attendance at the funeral. Mrs. Emerson and one daughter aged about 13 a very bright girl, survive him.”
