Obituary: Montclair Times, Monclair, New Jersey, 27 February 1909: Mrs. Margaret S. Muir, who passed away at her home on the morning of February 23, aged 94, was the widow of Joseph Muir, for many years a merchant tailor in New York City. Mrs. Muir was the daughter of the late Joshua and Rebecca Barnes of East Chester, N.Y., and was the last of eleven children, nearly all of whom lived to a ripe old age. Mrs. Muir's maternal grandfather, Thomas Shute, was one of the pioneer Methodists in this country at the time of John Wesley. The first Methodist prayer meeting in Westchester county was held at his home. Mrs. Muir leaves three sons, James and Joseph of San Antonio, Texas, and Samuel Barnes, and one daughter, Margaret Alison Muir, and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the home on Thursday afternoon and were conducted by Rev. Alfred Myer of the Collegiate Church, New York City. Internment was at Greenwood on Friday.
