Thomas age 21 volunteers in the U.S. Army for the Civil War. He is inducted in August 21, 1861 and musters at Camp Dick Robinson near Lexington, Kentucky on September 1, 1861. He became a part of Company "E" of the 1st Tennessee Volunteer Infantry Regiment. John Ellis, Spencer J. Tedder and Julius Aytse captained this Company. The Commanding Officer was Colonel Robert K. Byrd.
He fought throughout Kentucky and Tennessee eventually he fought in the Siege of Atlanta, Georgia, which was between July 22 and August 11, 1864. September 17, 1864 Thomas, with other original companies, mustered out at Nashville, Tennessee. Thomas Snow returned to his father's house near Hunnicutt, now Oakdale, Tennessee.
March 6, 1873 Thomas Snow marries Mary Ellen Morgan. Mary Ellen is the daughter of William and Mary (Wilson) Morgan. They eventually have six children. Four of their children survive to adulthood.
In 1890 the Thomas Snow family moves from Tennessee to Winlock, Washington. Thomas also brings his sister, Sarah Snow and niece Isabelle Snow. They all live very near their brother Joseph Snow and sister Matilda (Snow) Henderson. They continue to farm for their livlihood.
Thomas is buried in the Snow Cemetery on Joseph and Margaret's homestead. His grave proudly displays the Civil War Company "E" Union markings.
