Husband of Abigail Chapman, whom he married about 1758 and with whom he had eight known children: John, Abigail, Benjamin, Joseph, Anna, Remembrance, Lydia, and Chapman Hitchcock.

John Hitchock was baptized on April 5, 1741.
He was a tanner by trade.
He migrated from Saybrook, CT to Surry, NH as early as 1780, and thence to Rutland, VT and Pittsford, VT by 1790.
