SP4. KIA. Company A, 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, U.S. Army. Vietnam Wall: Panel 42W, Line 25.Specialist 4 Joseph George Ambrosio, a medical corpsman in the United States Army, was killed in action in Vietnam on September 27, 1968. On the morning of October 1, 1968, an Army representative informed his parents of their son's death. Their last communication with their son was a birthday card for his mother. Tragically, the young man was killed on his mother's birthday.

Specialist Ambrosio was born on October 31, 1947, in Lorain, Ohio. He graduated from Elyria High School, Elyria, Ohio, in 1965. He worked at Prout Chevrolet prior to entering military service on September 14, 1967.

Specialist Ambrosio was sent to Vietnam on March 8, 1968. He was killed during a fire fight with hostile forces while serving near Pleiku, Vietnam.

Calling hours were held on the evening of Monday, October 7, 1968, and on the afternoon and evening of Tuesday, October 8, 1968, in the funeral home. A parish Rosary was recited at 8 p.m. on October 8, 1968, in the funeral home. Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 9, 1968, in the funeral home, followed by 10 a.m. Requiem Mass in Saint Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, North Ridge Road, Elyria, Ohio. The Reverend Father Charles Logue officiated. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, Ohio.
