KENNETH D. BOURLAND
BOURLAND, USAF, LT. COL. KENNETH D., age 37, passed away on January 12, 2010 in Porte-Au-Prince, Haiti as a result of the earthquake. Ken was on assignment with the Southern Command. He was a 1987 Eagle Scout, Troop 14, graduate of UAB and earned his Master's Degree with Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, CA in 2008. Ken served in the USAF for 15 years including tours of duty in Saudi Arabia and Iraq. He also served with the USMC HMLA 167 out of New River, NC as a UH-1 Huey Helicopter Pilot, in an officer exchange program and was currently serving at the Southern Command Headquarters in Miami, FL.
Ken was preceded in death by his grandfather, Charles Melvin Davis.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Bourland; sons: Charley and Andrew; step-son, Chance; parents: Dennis and Adrienne Bourland; sister, Kellie Bourland; grandparents: George and Reedy Bourland; grandmother, Annette Davis; aunts: Pamela Seals and Dale Jordan; father-in-law, William Finn; and many other friends and relatives.
His funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at Gardendale First Baptist Church followed by burial in Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo at 1:30 p.m. The family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to: Troop 14 Memorial Campership, c/o Linda O'Toole, Palmerdale United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 192, Palmerdale AL 35123 or Air Force Aid Society, Inc., National Headquarters, 241 18th St., Suite 202, Arlington, VA 22202. Ridout's Gardendale Chapel is directing.
