Horace T. "Pete" Masterson Horace T. "Pete" Masterson passed away peacefully on April 23, 2010 at the age of 91 in the company of his family. Pete was born in San Antonio on June 29, 1918, the son of Thomas W. and Beatrice Masterson. Pete earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1942 from St. Mary's University. Upon graduation he enlisted in the Army Air Corps where he served during WWII as a communications officer for the 90th Bomb Group and reached the rank of Captain. Pete married Margret Kathleen "Kay" Masterson and they raised their family of three children in Houston where he worked 26 years as a geophysicist for Exxon. They retired to his ranch near Dripping Springs in 1972. Kay passed away in 1974. Pete was a dedicated member of Wimberley's Chapel in the Hills where he met and married Ida Sue Masterson in 1984. He was an avid golfer and active in the Wimberley Lions Club where he was honored as a Melvin Jones Fellow. He also assisted in establishing the Dripping Springs Lions Club. Pete is survived by his wife, Sue Masterson; his three children, Mary McIntosh, Beatrice Nettle, and Horace Masterson; three step-children, Jim Roberts, Susan Speckels, and John Roberts; two grandchildren, John McIntosh and wife Elizabeth, and Jennifer Nettle; two great-grandchildren, Fischer and Ian McIntosh as well as beloved nieces and nephews. His siblings, Thomas (Wash) Masterson, Beatrice (Bootsie) Masterson Richards, and Mary Lee (Peggy) Masterson Turnbull preceded him in death. The family extends a gracious thank you to Satellite Dialysis, his doctors, especially Dr. Greg Moore and Dr. Karon Simpson, and to Angels for Elders who lovingly cared for Pete over the last few years. A memorial service will be held in Wimberley at Chapel in the Hills on Sunday May 2nd at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Pete to Wimberley Lions Club or Chapel in the Hills Youth Ministry.
