Clair K. Whisler, 88, of 710 Marden Ave., Shippensburg, and formerly of Newburg,
died Tuesday, March 21, 2006, in the Chambersburg Hospital.
He was born May 18, 1917, in Newburg, Cumberland County, and was the son of the
late Clyde S. and Anna Mae Koser Whisler.
He was a member of the Lurgan United Brethren Church.
He was the owner and operator of the former Whisler's Lumber in Denton, Md., and
years ago had worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Highways.
He was a 1934 graduate of the Shippensburg High School and a member of the
Newburg-Hopewell Volunteer Fire Co.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dorothy J. Alleman Whisler; three sons,
Alan C. (his wife, Mabel) Whisler of Newburg, John S. (his wife, Janet) Whisler
of Newville and Gary L. (his wife, M. Baba) Whisler of Jacobus; two sisters,
Cleo Spangler of Carlisle and Elva Nehf of Shippensburg; 11 grandchildren; 23
great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; and a number of nieces and
He was preceded in death by three sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 25, in the Lurgan
United Brethren Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Richard E. Mose. Burial
will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
