Son of John Lester (born abt 1746 in Leicestershire, England) and Mary Marley.
Captain William Lester of Georgia moved to Leon County around 1850 at the age of 53 and established Oaklawn Plantation. By 1870, Capt. Lester owned 5000 acres of land in Texas, Georgia, and Florida.
Married Rhoda Jemison in Alabama in 1804. Father of William Humphrey, Jr., Artamesia "Artie" Frances, Robert Ezekiel, Harriet "Hattie" M., Sarah Margaret, Molly Mitchell and John Samuel.
He was also reported to have been involved with a vigilante group in Georgia in the mid - 1830's called "The Regulators"
Note: Originally interred at the Lester Family Cemetery at Oaklawn Plantation in Bradfordville, located at Bannerman Road and Thomasville Road. Burials at from the Lester Family Cemetery were reinterred at Oakland Cemetery in October, 1999, prior to commercial development of the property.
