Elizabeth L. Harmon, 81, of Lexington, died Friday, April 23, 2010, at King's Daughters' Hospital.
She was born Aug. 14, 1928 in Owensboro, Ky., the daughter of Frederick Joseph and Louise Thomas Clements. She was a homemaker and a former secretary for the old Bendix Corp. in South Bend. She was a member of the Church of the American Martyrs in Scottsburg, where she was the Eucharistic minister for the sick, the sacristan for the daily Masses and was also very active in the floral arrangements for the altar. She was a member of the Oblate Mission for St. Meinrad and was active in many charitable organizations. She was named the Humanitarian of the Year by the Clemson, S.C., Rotary Club in 1984 for service leadership including Meals on Wheels, ministering to the spiritual needs of the homebound, and organizing relief and caring for the poor.
She is survived by her husband, Donald K. Harmon, whom she married Jan. 30, 1954; three sons, Robert E.L. Harmon of Columbus, John F. Harmon of Napierville, Ill., and Thomas H. Harmon of Apex, N. C.; three daughters, Elizabeth G. Rosenberg of Louisville, Ky., Lucinda T. Johnson of Queen Creek, Ariz,. and Isabelle V. Dale of Newtown, Conn.; two sisters, Margaret H. Moore of South Bend and Beverly Ann Thallemer of Warsaw; 19 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Samuel Clements; and one sister, Mary Marcella Krzywkowski.
Cremation was chosen.
