"Ragsdale - At residence, 4 miles southwest of this city, at 9:30 this morning (Sept. 1), Charles A. Ragsdale, aged 86 years and 8 months.
"Thus again does the grim reaper, death, appear in our midst, carrying away to the great Beyond and better life one of Randolph's oldest, truest citizens. Uncle Charlie Ragsdale was known from border to border of the county, and wherever known was well liked and respected.
"He was born in Mason county, Kentucky, but came to this county in 1840, where he lived the remainder of his life. His death was due to a paralytic stroke received seven years ago, never recovering from the shock.
"He leaves a wife and ten children in this world of care and trouble to mourn his demise. The children are: Julius, Benj. and Geo. Ragsdale, of this county; John Waller Ragsdale of southwest Mo.; Louis Ragsdale, of Texas; and Mrs. Louisa Hardin, Mrs. Amanda Owings [sic], Mrs. Ans [sic] Gilliam, Mrs. Nancy Jennings and Miss Eliza Ragsdale. He also leaves some 50 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
"The funeral services will be conducted at the old family residence, 2 p.m. Friday, by Rev. J. R. Terrill of the Baptist Church. Burial at Julius Ragsdale burying ground, east of this city."
Many thanks to Nancy Meadows for stone photos.
