Death: Mar. 24, 1902

Johnathan's birth and baptism dates are extracted from the records found at St. John's (Hill) Church located outside Berrysburg, Mifflin Twp., Dauphin County. His sponsors were Georg Lorch and Lizabeth. In 1853 he petitioned the courts to name him administrator of his father Peter Enterline's estate after Peter's death. Peter died intestate. As court appointee to Peter's estate Johnathan was responsible for dividing up his father's estate between his siblings, securing guardianship for his younger sister, and in charge of auctioning off Peter Enterline's (5) separate tracts of land which were all located in Jefferson Township. This estate auction was held some months after Peter Enterline's death, according to these documents. In 1855 Johnathan Enterline opened a store in Powell's Valley, just across the "road" from Bowerman's Lutheran Church and Cemetery. (No doubt this was a direct result of the money he received from the settlement of his father's estate). He kept store there for 15 years before he sold it to Abraham Fortenbaugh. (In 1893 Alexander McLaughlin bought the John Enterline inventory and ran the general store.) It is unclear whether or not Abraham Fortenbaugh owned the store outright from Johnathan in 1870. However, what is true is that Johnathan Enterline was the first postmaster for Powell's Valley, so the postal address and small hamlet surrounding the store, which was located in the center of Jefferson, now "Wayne" Twp., was named in his honor: ENTERLINE. This information can be found in the Biographical Encyclopedia of Dauphin County, 1896, publishers: J.M. Ruck & Company, pg. 1138, and History of the County of Dauphin, in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, By Henry Egle, Everts & Peck, publishers, 1883, pg. 440.
