Actor. Carl Benton Reid was an American character actor of stage, film, and television who used his full name as there were already several actors named Carl Reid. Born in Lansing, Michigan, he was a drama graduate from Carnegie Tech and performed at the Cleveland Playhouse in the 1920s. He began achieving notice as a character performer on the Broadway stage in the 1930s. In 1941, he left for Hollywood and recreated his 1939 Broadway stage role of Oscar Hubbard in the film adaptation of "The Little Foxes." His many other film credits included "North Star" in 1943, "Carbine Williams" in 1952, "Battle Hymn" in 1957, " Pork Chop Hill" in 1959, "The Gallant Hours" in 1960 and his last film, "Madame X" in 1966. For television, he appeared in one or two episodes in a host of shows besides six episodes of "Schlitz Playhouse," five episodes of "Playhouse 90" and "General Electric Theatre," four episodes of "Perry Mason," and "Zane Grey Theater," three episodes of "The Loretta Young Show" and "Laramie," and his last television appearance was two episodes of "F.B.I." in 1966. He played the reoccurring role of "The Man" in sixteen episodes of "Burke's Law," airing in 1965 through 1966. He married actress Hazel Harrison while at the Cleveland Playhouse in the 1920s and they were married until his death in 1973.
