Birth: May 6, 1869
Leeds and Grenville United Counties

Death: Jun., 1943

Toronto Municipality

Minister of St. Andrew's Scarborough from 1912-1919.

Won the Gold Medal in Philosophy from Queen's College, Kingston, in 1897 while earning his bachelor's and master's at the same time.

Earned his Doctorate in Religious Education from the Hartford Seminary in Connecticut 1919-1921 while his second wife Adele and son Ralph spent two years with her parents in Montreal.

Harvey then became the minister of First Congregational Church in Cromwell, CT, from 1922-1929. His final assignment was another St. Andrew's Presbyterian in Whitby, Ontario, 1932-1939.

First wife Elizabeth "Lizzie" Weir White died when their daughter Margaret was only seven. Lizzie is buried in the Churchyard of St. Andrew's Presbyterian, Spencerville, across the street from the Carmichael homestead. Harvey's grandfather John and father Andrew built the house between 1872 and 1877.

Harvey was home-schooled until the age of 16 due to working on the farm and in the general store the family ran from their home. His father then entered him in nearby Kemptville High School where Harvey completed the 5-year course in 1 1/2 years, then was admitted to Queen's College.

But his matriculation was delayed a few years while Harvey worked as a telegraph operator/station master in various railway stations to earn the tuition money.

Plaque on wall of his final church:

He came to St. Andrew's, Pickering
Village, in 1932. He was a quiet,
studious man of wide knowledge and
sound judgement. He was kind and
sympathetic in his pastoral work and
beloved of his people.
