MRS. J.H. MARTIN TAKEN BY DEATH

Daughter of Pioneer Attorney And Wife of Former U. S. Attorney

Mrs. Josephine B. Martin, wife of John Martin, prominent local attorney, died yesterday in Los Angeles after an illness of three weeks.

Mrs. Martin with her husband, had gone to Los Angeles nearly a month ago, to spend their summer vacation. No more than a week had passed before Mrs. Martin became ill.

She left a son, Jack Martin, and a daughter, Mrs. Gladstone McIllheney, both of Tucson; a second daughter, Mrs. Willie Hazlett of Phoenix, and her husband. The son and daughter in Tucson left yesterday afternoon for Los Angeles.

Mrs. Martin was the daughter of Judge William Barnes, pioneer attorney of Tucson. The Martin family came here in 1884, and Mr. Martin has been actively engaged in law practice since that time. He was at first associated with Judge Barnes. He was later appointed United States district attorney.

The family residence is at 17 East Speedway.

No announcement was made regarding funeral arrangements, but it is expected that the body will be brought to Tucson for burial.
