Kenneth O. Nadgwick, 88
Kenneth O. Nadgwick, 88, died Nov. 11, 2007, in Blair.
He was interred at the Nyman Cemetery.
Kenneth Oliver Nadgwick was born April 14, 1919, on the Nadgwick family farm, located east of Essex, Iowa, to Joe and Vilma (Hart) Nadgwick.
He attended Fremont Center and Lone Star country schools and graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1936.
He joined the Fremont Mission Covenant Church in rural Essex as a youth and was an active member in various organizations there. He served as trustee, financial secretary, and Sunday School teacher. He also enjoyed being in the church choir and the men's quartet. When the church closed, he transferred his membership to the Faith Covenant Church in Essex.
He began farming with his father. They also operated a dairy together. Kenneth Nadgwick held many other jobs in various fields during his entire working life. He continued to farm as long as his health permitted. He was part owner of the Cook Paint Store. He was also part owner of the Book and Craft Shoppe where he took pride in his picture framing.
On Nov. 9, 1941, he married Virginia Palmquist. They were parents of a daughter, Deanna. Virginia Nadgwick died in April 1943, when their baby was 10 days old. On Aug. 17, 1947, he married Carol Palmquist. The couple had two children. Mrs. Nadgwick died in April 1998 after more than 50 years of marriage.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Deanna and Bill Walton of Albany, Ore,, David and Theresa Nadgwick of Blair, and Donna and Darwin Smith of Granite Falls, Wash.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Freeman of Hickory, N.C.; other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his two wives, he was preceded in death by a brother, Russell.
Camprbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
