COTTAGE GROVE — A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at Creswell Presbyterian Church for Earl L. Cooper of Cottage Grove, who died April 18 of age-related causes. He was 88.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 24, at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove.
He was born Sept. 7, 1921, in Mason City, Iowa, to Vern and Helen Dodge Cooper. He married Mary Jane Harter on Dec. 13, 1941, in Marysville, Mo.
He attended school in Dexter, Iowa. He served in the Army during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was an edger operator for Rikini Lumber until his retirement in 1983.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, David and Wendel, both of Harrisburg; four daughters, Rosalie Wallace of St. Helens, and Janice McTaggart, Lori Jo Russell and Linda K. Ward, all of Cottage Grove; two brothers, Clarence of Des Moines, Iowa, and Russell of Creswell; a sister, Kathryn Drake of Creswell; 27 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. One son, Alan, and one great-grandchild, D.J. Schmerber, died previously.
