MRS. J. M. MILLER CLAIMED BY DEATH
WAS THE WIDOW OF A PIONEER BUSINESS MAN
Mrs. Sarah Miller, widow of the late John. M. Miller, and one of the pioneer residents of Fort Wayne, died Sunday night at the family home, 216 East Jefferson street, at the age of 80 years. Death was due to weakened heart action, resultant from the infirmities of age. Mrs. Miller, whose maiden name was Sarah Noble, was born at Poughkeepsie, N. Y., August 11, 1825, and came with her parents to Fort Wayne at the age of twelve years, making the trip to this city by way of the lakes to Toledo, and thence over the Wabash and Erie canal. The family located on a farm east of the city, and following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Miller took up their residence in the East Jefferson street residence, which was continuously their home thereafter. The husband was a pioneer furniture dealer and the family was very widely known. Mrs. Miller was the mother of seven children, three of whom survive. They are Mrs. W. A. Croxton, Mrs. Stephen Morris and Cassius Miller, all of this city. There is also a brother, Lyman Noble, residing on a farm three miles east of Fort Wayne. Mrs. Miller many years ago became a member of the Berry street M.E. church, later transferring her membership to the Wayne street congregation. She was a most estimable woman, devoted, sincere and kindly, and leaves a legion of friends. Funeral services from the residence Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. A. S. Preston, of the Wayne street M.E. church.
