Solomon C. McCollough (22)
Nancy E. Brashears (17)
March 06, 1881
Carroll County, Arkansas

Nancy Ellen Brashears was born on March 18, 1863, the daughter of Mariah J. Mitchell and William Brashears, a Madison County, Arkansas Blacksmith. She was 1/16 Cherokee Indian.

On March 06, 1881 she married Solomon C. McCollough. There were three boys and three girls born to Solomon and Nancy's family. The boys' names were Thomas, the oldest; Toliver, the second; and Cranfil, the youngest. The three girls were named Darcus, the oldest; Susie, second; and Sarah Francis, the youngest.

Nancy's husband, Solomon McCullough, was a Methodist circuit rider who rode horseback many miles, staying away from home weeks at a time. During those years Nancy managed the family farm and home while her husband was traveling his circuit.

The McColloughs lived for a number of years in Green Forest Town, Arkansas; however, on April, 8, 1903, Solomon purchased 80 acres of land in northern Carroll County, Arkansas through the 1862 Homestead Act. By 1919, at the time of Nancy's death, the family owned a house and 140 acres said to be in some of the best farming parts of northern Carroll County.

On the 20th of June 1919, Nancy passed away. She is buried beside her husband in the Blue Eye Cemetery, located on the north side of the state line of Missouri & Arkansas, three-quarters of a mile west of Blue Eye, Missouri.
