Rachel Kleppe 1874-1965

Mrs. Rachel S. Kleppe, age 90, passed away at the Good Samaritan Home in Clearbrook on August 11, 1965. She had been a patient at the Rest Home for two weeks prior to death. Mrs. Kleppe was born in Flekkefjord, Norway on November 1, 1874 to parents Staale and Gunhild Egeland. She was married to Arent Kleppe in 1896 in Shelly, Minnesota.
In 1896 the Kleppes came to Clearwater County and homesteaded in Pine Lake Township. They were some of the first settlers in this area. They lived and farmed in Pine Lake Township until Mr. Kleppe's passing in 1942. Ms. Kleppe lived on the farm until 1956 when she moved out west and lived with some of her children out there. In June of this year she came back to Minnesota. Mrs. Kleppe was a charter member of the First Lutheran Church of Clearbrook.
Surviving Mrs. Kleppe's death are the following children: (Gena) Mrs. August Van Loo of Richmond, California; Steve of Selby, California; (Ruth) Mrs. peter Ljosdal of Pasadena, California; (Esther) Mrs. Arnold Lindmark of Oakland, California; Rev. Orville of Elma, Washington and Roy on the home place of Clearbrook. Twenty three grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren also survive.
Mrs. Kleppe was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, one daughter, six sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 17th at the Elim Lutheran Brethren Church of Clearbrook. The Rev. O.A. Monsen, of Clearbrook officiated and burial was made in the Silver Creek Cemetery of Clearbrook. The Cease Funeral Home of Clearbrook was in charge of arrangements.
