Margaret was named after her maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Shafer Chesley of Granville PA, and her maternal aunt Margaret Chesley Downs who lived on the next door farm in Windsor Iowa. She had just turned 4 years old when her mother died in 1863. Her Auntie Margaret had died just two weeks before.

There were two children of this union. There is an Ida Snyder in the 1880 household of Edward and (Margaret) Elizabeth Pratt Snyder. She was age 5 and therefore b. ~1875. She is a daughter of Margaret's first marriage; perhaps adopted by Edward Snyder when he and Margaret married.
