MUNDAY- William Lee Roy Leflar passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2009 at McKinney, TX at the age of 90.

The eldest of the four children of William Godbey Leflar and Ora Lee (Neely) Leflar, he was born May 7, 1918 in Haskell County, TX on a ranch located about two miles east of the town of Rochester. He married Audrey Nell Phillips of Munday, TX on March 8, 1947 at San Antonio, TX. At the time of Audrey's death in 1997, Lee Roy and Audrey had been married for more than fifty years.

They had four children: William Gregory (Bill) Leflar of The Woodlands, TX; Toni (Leflar) Anderson of Tyler, TX; Jackye (Leflar) Johnston of McKinney, TX; Phillip Lee Leflar who died in 1970 at the age of fourteen. They had six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He leaves one sibling, a sister, Helen (Leflar) Darling, of Hutchinson, KS.

In his early life, he lived with his family in rural Haskell County. He attended Midway School, worked on farms and ranches in the area, and graduated from Weinert High School.

In 1942, he entered the U.S. Army and performed combat service in Europe during WWII, serving as a crew chief, Battery "A", 910th Anti-aircraft Artillery (AW) Battalion in Germany and France. He achieved the rank of staff sergeant and was awarded the bronze star prior to being honorably discharged in 1945.

Following the war, he married and settled at Munday, TX where he continued to farm and operate businesses, beginning with Leflar Flying Service in 1955. On April 26, 1957, he accepted Christ and was baptized.

He retired in 1973. During his retirement years, he enjoyed fishing, woodcrafts, western dancing, gardening and spectator sports. He was an extremely loyal fan of the Munday Moguls and, along with his brother, Welton, was heavily involved with volunteer work in the athletic program for many years. In 2005, he moved from Munday, TX to McKinney, TX to be near his children.

Under the direction of McCauley-Smith Funeral Home, family visitation will be available from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at Johnson Cemetery at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 1, 2009. Honorary pallbearers are the grandchildren: Buffie Guetersloh, Robin Quintana, Felicia Vaughn, Scott Anderson, and Greg Leflar.
