Wife of Rev. John Kidney

Mary Jane, like all of her siblings, was born in Ballymageogh Townland, Kilkeel Civil Parish, County Down, Ireland. She married John Kidney in Elizabeth Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania in 1844. When the majority of her family migrated to Wapello County, Iowa in 1851 this family unit, along with her sister Eliza and husband Joseph Morrison and brother William and wife Mary Ann Forsythe, stayed behind in Pennsylvania. Within a couple of years though the John Kidney family moved to Washington County, Ohio. Mary Jane evidently did not stay in touch with her family since the report of George Forsyth on June 27, 1857, as executor of the will of her father, John Forsyth, Sr., stated "All other claims satisfied with the exception of one Heir, Mary Jane Kidney of Ohio." She was bequeathed one dollar. John and Mary Jane had 10 children; Rev. Josiah Elmer, Susannah, James Watson, John Dean, Sarah Ann, William Robert, Margaret, Otho, Matthew Simpson, and George.

Mary J., widow of Rev. John Kidney, and a second cousin of President McKinley, died at the home of her son, M. S. Kidney, Washington and Elizabeth-sts., Monday, from heart trouble, aged 80 years. The deceased was born in Liverpool, England (sic), and her maiden name was Mary Jane Forsythe. She came to America when very young, and for many years lived in Berkeley county, W. Va. She removed to Hagerstown eight years ago, since which time she has resided with her son. She was a member of Washington Square M. E. church, and as long as health permitted was a regular attendant at all services. These children survive: Mrs. S. S. Middlekauff, Rev. J. E. Kidney, Derby's Station, Pa.; John D., of Ohio; W. R., Berkeley county, W. Va.; O. E., McKeesport, Pa. and M. S., of this city. Funeral at 4 o'clock, services at Washington Square M. E. church; interment in Rose Hill cemetery.
