Valerie Jo Koelsch: Newspaper Obituary and Death Notice

Daily Oklahoman, The (Oklahoma City, OK) - Monday, May 1, 1995

Deceased Name: Valerie Jo Koelsch

Our beautiful daughter, sister, aunt, niece and friend, Valerie Jo Koelsch, age 33, of Bethany, died April 19, 1995, a victim in the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. Valerie was born March 5, 1962 in Oklahoma City to Harry Joe and Rosemary Koelsch. She attended St. Patrick's Elementary, Putnam City Schools, St. Gregory's College and Oklahoma Sate University. At OSU, she majored in marketing and was selected as one of the Outstanding Marketing Major Seniors by the OSU Marketing Faculty. She was employed at the Federal Employees Credit Union for 11 years as their Marketing Director. While employed at FECU, she twice won CUNA's Bridge Award for Excellence in Newsletter Communication and the Dora Maxwell Award for Social Responsibility. She often said she had three families: her God given family, her church family and her credit union family. She attended St. Patrick's Catholic Church and was very involved in the Young Adults, Parish Council and various other ministries. One highlight of her life was seeing the Pope at the World Youth Day Conference. Being a member of the OSU Alumni, she loved OSU sports and was a faithful fan. She loved her family, especially her nieces and nephew. Her survivors include her parents, Ha rry and Rosemary Koelsch, brothers and sisters-in-law, Greg & Stephanie Koelsch, Terry & Rhonda Koelsch, sister & brother-in-law, Michelle & Gary Brooks. Her nieces and nephew, Lindsey, Laurie, Kayla, Taylor Koelsch and Austin Brooks. Her grandmother's U rilla Schachle and Maude Koelsch and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandfathers Harry J. Koelsch, Sr. & Joe A. Schachle and her uncle George Schachle. She spent countless hours on the softball field and made many lasting friendships. Her smile and laughter were contagious and living to serve others is what brought her joy. Valerie lived more in her short life than most live in two lifetimes. We long for the day we see her again in heaven. In lieu of flowers memor ial donations may be made to the Valerie Koelsch Scholarship Fund, c/o Sheet Metal Worker's Local No. 124, 1404 N.W. 1st Street, Oklahoma City, Ok 73106. Evening prayer service is Sunday 6:00 p.m. at St. Patrick's Church at 2021 N. Portland. Mass of Chri stian burial starts at 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Church. Followed by interment at Immaculate Conception Cemetery. SMITH & KERNKE

You are not forgotten. You always had a smile on your face and a warmth in your heart. You were part of a credit union family, and I was happy to know you.
