George Bickle
Died because of the effects of asphyxia the day after the Great Fire at the Yellow Jacket Mine (Crown Point Shaft)
as a news paper of the time put it(Gold Hill Evening News April 7th 1869 )
Two brothers scrambled towards one of the cages to be drawn to the surface. One of them (James)fell exhausted, when the other picked him up anf dragged hin to the cage, but he was insensible, and the other was fast becoming so from the smoke, but he had strenth enough left to ring the bell and the cage started up. The head of the insensible man (James) was caught by the timbers of the shaft and crushed to atoms! The Other Brother (George) who was also smothering, involuntarily, and not knowing what had happend caught the mangled and bleeding body of his brother in his arms and when the cage reached the top one was a corpse and the other was insensible, but with a death grip on his brothers body.
George never regained consciousness and died the next day around noon, Both Brothers were laid to rest side by side in the Odd Fellows Lodge Section of the Gold Hill Cemetery on April 9th 1869. Their Stones stand Side by Side.
The two color photos taken in 1998 show how the Gold Hill NV. City Cemetery Looks like today

That is not his photograph. None were taken of the three brothers who died in the mining accident of 1869.
