George Washington Flanders, a Montana pioneer, who served with the Sixth Vermont regiment in the Civil war, died Tuesday at the hospital. He was a native of Vermont and would have been 85 years old on February 22. He came up the Missouri river to Fort Benton in 1866, locating at Helena. Four years later he came to the Gallatin valley and built the first shingle mill in Bear canyon.
