Shirley Gloria (Eiland) Snyder Ruhmel was born to John Charles and Carrie Louise (Arrington) Eiland. She was born in Lake Wales, Polk County, Florida but spent the majority of her life in Tampa. At approximately 17 years old, she ran off with her fiance, James Snyder to Georgia and got married. Her husband, James served in the U.S. Coast Guard and together they had four children: Teresa, Cathy, Jamie and James, Jr. Shirley and James divorced in 1973. She then married George "Skip" Adam Ruhmel. The two had no children and although they separated many years prior they did not officially divorce until 1996. Shirley was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Brittany; her parents, John Charles and Carrie Louise Eiland; one sister, Joyce Ann Cagle; and one brother, John Charles Eiland, Jr. She is survived by three daughters, Teresa, Cathy, and Jamie and one son, James Snyder, Jr. She is also survived by two brothers, H. Wayne Eiland of Tampa; Donnie G. Eiland of Bradenton, and one sister, Dorothy Mobley of Spring Hill; and many nieces and nephews.
