Francis Eugene Whiteman, 79, died in his home near Dresden, TN on Sunday, September 27, 2009. He was born on the farm at Steelton, Westzel, WV, on December 4, 1929, a son of Jim F. and Pearl (Thomas) Whiteman. He completed grade school at Minnie, WV and High school at Reader, WV. In 1952 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving as a ground radio operator in the Korean War. He got an honorable discharge in the fall of 1956 to begin his college education at Harding University, Searcy, AR. There he met and married his wife, Jane (Lewis) Whiteman. They graduated from college in 1961. He held a B.A. degree in Bible with a minor in Greek from Harding. He held an M.A. degree in education from Harding. He taught in a grade school and was principal in another for two years while at the same time entering the ministry. He had been a gospel preacher for over fifty years, serving Churches of Christ as a missionary in Houghton Lake, MI for six years; and in KS, WV, AL, TN, OK and AR. His last place of service was with the Union Chapel Church of Christ, Palmersville, TN, where he continued preaching until it was physically impossible for him. He committed his life to preaching the gospel many years ago and never lost sight of that goal, stating more than once that he intended to preach until he dropped in his tracks. Preaching and trying to reach the lost was his life. He loved the Lord more than he loved his earthy family, for which they are grateful. In additional to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings Everett: Edgar: Mabel Hilton and Opal Simpson. He was preceded in death by in-laws Jimmy Seckman, Jesse Hilton, and Bill Simpson. He is survived by siblings Georgia (Lloyd) Sands and Jim (Jan) of New Martinsville, WV; Mart (Lora) of littleton, WV; Clarence of Judsonia, AR; Braxie (Ray) Hunt of Sistersville, WV and Pearl Seckman of Beaverton, Michigan. He is survived by in-laws Vernette Whiteman of Harrison, MI and Pat Whiteman of New Martinsville WV. He is survived by his wife of almost 51 years, Jane; and by their three children, Amy Ruth Logan of Dexter, MO; Julie Beth and her husband Don Cooper of Gleason, TN; and Lewis Eugene and his wife Mechell of near Latham, TN. He is survived by grandchildren Jason (Shelly), Ryan, and Ramey Bateman, Tammie Russell, Veronica (Dalton) Hinson, Lesa (Phil Don) Finch, Annie Sophera, Josh (Shelley) and Jason Cooper, Carey (Mike) Cummings, Kim (Mark) Miller, Alex, Jeremiah, and Frankie Ann Whiteman. He is survived by great-grandchildren Tyler Bateman, Rilley and Chloe Jones; Aiden Russell; Grace, Dryver and Jorja Finch, Cason, Haden And Caroline Cooper; and great-granddaughter Cummings to be born in February 2010. There was visitation at Bowlin Funeral Home, Dresden, Tuesday evening. Funeral service was at Bowlin Funeral Home on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009 at 2 p.m. with visitation from noon until 1:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Francis requested that the best "flowers" he could receive would be that any and all would dedicate their lives to Christ. We want to thank all who showed love and concern for us in any way, during Francis's illness. Burial in Liberty Cemetery near Dresden, TN. Dresden, Tenn. - Francis Eugene Whiteman, 79, died Sept. 27, 2009. Whiteman was born in Wetzel County, W.Va., on Dec. 4, 1929, to Jim F. and Pearl Thomas Whiteman. He served in the U.S. Air Force in the Korean War from 1952-1956 before earning undergraduate and master's degrees from Harding University. He was a gospel preacher for more than 50 years, serving churches of Christ as a missionary in Michigan, Kansas, West Virginia, Alabama, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. He last served the Union Chapel Church of Christ in Palmersville, Tenn. He is survived by his wife of almost 51 years, Jane; their three children, Amy Logan of Dexter, Mo.; Julie Cooper of Gleason, Tenn.; and Lewis Eugene Whiteman of Latham, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and siblings Georgia Sands and Jim Whiteman of New Martinsville, W.Va.; Mart Whiteman of Littleton. WVa.; Clarence Whiteman of Judsonia, Ark.; Braxie Hunt of Sistersville, W.Va.; and Pearl Seckman of Beaverton, Mich.
