John was the son of Walter and Sarah Watters and the grandson of Godfrey Watters and Sarah White Watters, whose farm was close to the present day Thomas Run Church. John's uncle was Rev. Wm Watters, the first native born Methodist circuit rider.
John and his wife, Esther Young Watters lived on a farm in Cooptown where their twelve children (two sets of twins) grew up. Only three of the children married.
John Watters was buried at Thomas Run Church near his sister and brother-in-law, Sarah Watters Harryman and her husband, Rev. Hezekiah Harryman.
