George W Watson enlisted on August 28 1861 in Co. A of the 21st Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was captured Sept 20 1863 at the Battle of Chickamagua, Georgia, and died August 8, 1864.

In May 1863, following the battle of Stone's River, the soldiers of the 21st Ohio, as a testimonial of their regard for Colonel Neibling, presented him, with an elegant sword and pair of spurs. George W. Watson, of Company A, was chosen, by the regiment to make the presentation to the Colonel, which was done on the 27th of May.
